Excellent information for those new to Thai culture and evident when living in Thailand. Unfortunately I am seeing nam jai slowly disappear as substitution for baht creeps into Thai behavior. We (the West) are quickly contaminating this culture and those exposed now want baht instead of expressing nam jai for selfless acts. It is now business not nam jai. Hopefully nam jai will survive as I believe this world is in need of this attitude desperately.

I think that some Thai people like to use foreign friends as well and expect far more in return than then any Thai person would ever sam-neuk boon koon in kind.

Maybe the anger was more for the loss of benefit than from real hurt or lack of respect.

That is my observation as a English speaking Thai who sadly sees far too many people exploit westerners.
